Gwangju Democratic Uprising arose in Gwangju, South Korea from May 18 to May 27, 1980. Gwangju citizens fought against the military government after local Chonnam University students who were demonstrating against the martial law government were fired upon, killed, raped and beaten by government troops.

During this period, it is estimated that there were over 3,000 casualties.

On May 18,2021, Club YeSuDa will hold a concert in the memory of this unforgettable event. Through our concert, we wish to give hope also to the people in Myannmar who are going through a similar struggle.

5·18光州民主化運動は、1980年5月18日から27日の明け方までの10日間、光州市民と全南道民が、当時チョン·ドゥファンが頂点となっていた新軍部勢力の鎮圧に立ち向かうため「非常戒厳の撤廃」「維新勢力の撤廃」などを声に上げました。

死を覚悟してまでも民主主義を勝ち取るために当時の軍部勢力に抵抗した歴史的事件です。 

戒厳軍によって鎮圧されて以来、5·18民主化運動は一時「北朝鮮の使徒による暴動」と誹謗されましたが、真相究明の為に、粘り強く闘うことにより、1996年には国が記念する民主化運動として地位を回復しました。

2021年5月18日、クラブ「イエスダ」は、本公演を通じて、光州民主化運動の3,000人を超える死傷者を追悼しながら、軍部独裁に対抗して戦うミャンマーの国民を慰め、彼らに希望を与えられたらと思っています。
